Moment by moment. Miss it, and it is gone forever.

Life is in the streets. It is ever-changing. I can return again and again to the same spot in the city, and the scene will be completely different. There will be different people, gestures, activities, clothing, weather. Everything changes minute by minute. Seasons change by months, streets by moments. If you miss the moment it is gone forever.

Street photography is a much different discipline than photographing landscapes and nature. In the streets, I may not be able to wait on the light. Things change rapidly. Perhaps I can remain in the light and the scene will quickly come into view. The adage “f8 and be there” is the rule.

One eye of the photographer looks wide open through the viewfinder, the other, the closed looks into his own soul.
